The Career Academy Network of Public Schools (CANoPS) is committed to providing safe, and supportive, learning environments for all students. In accordance with the federal Unsafe School Choice Option (USCO) provision, CANoPS establishes this practice to ensure that students who are victims of violent criminal offenses or who attend schools identified as persistently dangerous have the opportunity to transfer to a safe public school within the network.

1. 1. Option #1: Any student who is the victim of a violent criminal offense at school will be offered the opportunity to transfer to another safe public school within the CANoPS network.
   2. Option #2: Should a school be designated as persistently dangerous, consideration will be given that students most impacted at that school will be provided the option to transfer to another like safe school within the network, to the extent space and resources allow.

This policy shall be posted on the website of each CANOPS school and made available to parents and guardians upon request. The policy will be reviewed periodically and updated as necessary to ensure continued compliance with Section 8532 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, Indiana Department of Education requirements, and other applicable state and federal laws.
